Re: Statically Compiled Odoo :: How to?

Hi Alexandre, Hi Andre

thanks for your answer, indeed I meant statically linked. Thanks. I'm investigating the possibility of a docker workflow, producing minimal app images based on busybox. Actually I mixed up "compiling" and "statically lining" into "statically compiling".

So what I'm looking for is to compile the python code (odoo and dependencies) through a c-compile so I can leave out the (overhead of) python interpreter and statically link dependencies so I get a minimal monolitic executable (or package) and no further surface than a c-interpreter on the busybox. Reduce to the max (surface and memory). It's kind of a research interest, as I don't know the real benefits, but as long as I'm still in holiday mode it justs interests me ;)

Indeed for a determistic image this is not necesary. Thanks for the example in the link! But I really cannot do that kind of stuff?

Maybe one could even strip of werkzeug or any other components of odoo itself in the context of a WSGI server socket connection?

Saludos Cordiales

Short answer: you don't.

You don't need a statically compiled version to make deterministic images; all you need is an archive file (usually a .tar) that you can fetch and extract to the right places. See the nix package for another Python application, rdiff-backup: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/master/pkgs/tools/backup/rdiff-backup/default.nix

Hi Folks

this is a burning question:

How can I statically compile odoo?

I hope the geeks will stumble over this question and help me with some mindshare on how to acomplish this. Why? I need deterministic images (hopefully nix (http://nixos.org/nix/) has reached python world for preparing and tagging the environment) with reduced surface.
