I don't the answer bug out of curiosity I would like to know why are you still use OpenERP 6.1 ?
what hold you back for migrating to the latest version?
It works and has done for 7 years (24 hours a day - 7 days a week). If it ain't broke don't fix it!
However, I have noticed a drop in speed recently and was curious if clearing the log files might speed things up.
I think log cleaning does not help much but you should archive very old data it may help
