I would like to know the importance of the PosBox system over the previous direct computer connection. I feel the posbox is a glorified USB hub for hardware peripherals. Can some one  help me understand its full benefit.

I suppose PosBox is useful for those using tablets for POS. It helps people connect their tablet with the hardware peripheral. But as for a laptop user or a PC user, it may not be necessary, since a desktop (e.g. All in one Touch Computer), has connection ports for hardware peripherals.

you need the posbox if your cash register is not near your computer (e.g. you have multiple stores in different streets or cities).

because the POS application is a web app running in a browser, that device cannot connect to hardware..

(if the POS application would be client software itself, then it could connect to the peripherals, but it is not).

the POSBox then makes it possible to connect the hardware (cash drwaer, scanner, printer, card reader) at your point of sale (POS).
