Shipping updates using automated WhatsApp messages

I am a company that ship products using my own vehicles, and I am trying to set up  automatic messages to my clients whenever their parcel status changes. I have not found a function that allows me to do so. Is there a way I can do that?

Business context:

The use of the function "Shipping - Text confirmation" via WhatsApp, will allow our clients to automatically send personalized WhatsApp messages to clients every time their shipment status changes. This means our customers will stay informed in real time, from dispatch through delivery, without needing to check their email or call us.

This new feature is designed to improve customer satisfaction and reduce the number of support inquiries about delivery status, while still continue to automatize the way our clients communicate using Odoo.


Solution:


⚠️

Requirements:

  • Odoo 19 and later
  • Inventory multi-Step routes activated
  • Activate Text Confirmation via WhatsApp and select a template
  • Active WhatsApp account

 

💡

This solution is targeted to be used without Studio. If you want (and can) use Studio, you can create automatizations to send these notifications


1. Create a WhatsApp template:

​1.1. Applies to Transfer

​1.2. In the Phone Field: Select Address > Phone

​1.3. In the body, insert the desired message, while including the following variables:

​ ​a) partner_id

​ ​b) Sales Order > Order Lines > ID

​ ​c) Stock Moves > Operation Type > WhatsApp Message (this field was created with studio

​ ​d) company_id




2. Go to Inventory Settings, go to Shipping and activate Text Confirmation > WhatsApp > Select the template you just created


3. Go to Inventory Settings > Warehouses, and activate Multi-Step Routes


4. Set your Warehouse Outgoing Shipments to either option that has more than one step


5. Go to Operation Types:

​5.1. Change the name of each operation to match the message you want the WhatsApp message to send.

​5.2. Set each Type of Operation to: Delivery (NOTE: This feature ONLY works if every operation type is set as a Delivery)

​5.3. Set the Source Location to match each of the steps that you set up previously in your warehouse.







6. Now let's create a complete sale flow:



As you go to validate each of the delivery moves, take a look at the Chatter:


This message will change as you continue validating each delivery step:


And finally, when you deliver the order, you will notify the client that the order has been delivered:


By doing these configurations, you will be able to maintain your clients informed about the status of their shipments automatically.
