What options are there for externally storing files with Odoo 7/8?

Hi everybody

Could anybody tell me what kind of options are available for uploading attachments to a NAS/external server/ ...?
So far I found out there is a Google docs app and the community driven file-exchange (https://code.launchpad.net/~akretion-team/file-exchange/file-exchange) which I do not seem to get working. This doesn't even show up under settings.

What options are there for uploading attachments and files to another server and how should this be done?
Ideally I would like to upload files to an external server somehow.

With kind regards
Yenthe

I have no experience with it but this should help:

Marek, I know where and how they are stored and that there are two modes (db and filestore). But what I'm looking for is how to place those files external through FTP/NAS.

Map NAS to local path on Odoo server. If it is linux you can map NSF or Samba, on Windows mount SMB drive.
