Unable to access Preferences and Users menu

System notes: (Odoo version 8.0-9b67a48, Ubuntu Server 14.04, x64)

When clicking Preferences from the dropdown menu in the upper right corner, and/or clicking Users in the Settings-->Users-->Users  menu, I only get a long trace telling me that there is an handle exeception, trace output:

I've tested using a "fresh" installation as well, but the problem remains - anybody have an idea on what might cause this error?
