these are the steps to create openoffice report designer:

1.Download openerp_report_designer.zip file

2.Open the OpenOffice

3.In the Tools menu,you can find a sub-menu called Extension Manager,In that you have to add the vopenerp_report_designer.zip file by pressing add button and close it.

4. Close the OpenOffice and restart again.Then you can find a extra Menu called OpenERP Report Designer.In that you can modify Existing Reports or Create new reports

As far as I have heard from, some plugins are not up to date with Odoo v8.

Apprently, you need to get involved in the coders community to get what you expect sometimes.

I use Open Office ver. 4.1.0 and always when I try to connect database it fails and return the message "wrong login/password" !!!

I use the same login and password always to sign in Odoo !!!!

NO WAY TO SOLVE PROBLEM and NO working ANSWER found allover the forum.

Try Openoffice versions 3.xx,  May be this solves your issue.

I have tried all possible version of Openoffice and all ends up with the same problem, they connect to the database but cannot download the report with an error that the download link is invalid.

IMHO it is something to do with the plugin provided with Odoo 8.
