Odoo/OpenERP release strategy ... Where is stable ? (follow-up)

Hello,

I am not sure to have understand how this forum is working... I posted a question here:https://www.odoo.com/forum/Help-1/question/OdooOpenERP-release-strategy--Where-is-stable-57057. I got 2 intersting answers but it looks like that this (discussion?) forum does not allow to post more than 1 answer so difficult to have a conversation:-)  Editing the previous answer does not give visibility to the edit.

Anyway, here is my point:

My initial question was about the place were to fin a stable release of openerp/odoo.

In the link mentionned above, I got an answer from Stephen from who I understand that we today have the choice for community download between:

  • Nightly built of v7 (I downloaded a recent one and even some basic functionalities such as opening a new window to create a new cstomer doe not work)
  • Pre-release of v8 (I looked at this page: https://github.com/odoo/odoo ... The given link in "deb http://nightly.openerp.com/8.0/deb/ ./" does not exist)

So I understand that there is currently no available stable download of openerp.

Is my understanding right ?

Thank you

Franck

Odoo v8 has not yet been released. You can use COMMENTS to have a conversation about a question or an answer (like this comment).

You should monitor the page at https://www.odoo.com/page/download or http://nightly.odoo.com/

When the download for Ubuntu changes from 7.0 to 8.0 [on the first page] or trunk changes to 8.0 (stable) [on the second page], that is your indication that 8.0 is 'released'.

I've tested the procedure in every blog post I could fine, and each of the onese that install Odoo from the 8.0 branch on GitHub either had errors or left things unexplained.  I've written this script to install Odoo 8.0 from GitHub on a clean Ubuntu 14.04 server.  It will do just about everything for you.  Read the comments first, set the variables, and when prompted enter passwords.  The script will set up Odoo along with Apache proxying.

Hello,

Thanks for all you answers. I have been looking for the 'comment' box for  while .. .Good to hear that I do not need to go to my optician right now ;-)

It is quite strange to leave a big piece of code and functionalities such as OpenERP without any stable versions for months but it has probably some reasoning somewhere.

Thanks for help anyway. I will give a look at v8 RC

Some people call me a karma whore, I only ask for 10 points if you like my answer and 15 if I happen to get it correct.

Hi Frank,

You are correct in your assessment of your options.  If you are looking for a package to install for V8, I don't believe that one exists.

The forum is designed to have on question and one accepted answer.  For conversation you may comment on your question or any answer.  The problem is that you may not see the comment option (located near where you would edit your post) until your karma is a little higher unless this is a forum bug (I have the same problem as you when it comes to commenting).

The bottom line is that the most current version of odoo 8 is in GitHub under 8.0
https://github.com/odoo/odoo/tree/8.0

I have used this install script successfully to install my test server with source from GitHub.
