I'm transtioning to Odoo 10 from another accounting program. To do so and to start of 2018 I need to get my iventory in Odoo.

All documentation is very helpfull concerning updating the initial stock (how many items do I have). But what I don't find in the documentation is how to add the value.

i.e.

I have 10 bags of dogfood and I bought them for 10 euro's each. How do I get the stock value (100 euro) into the system???

I use realtime inventory valuation

in short

> created the inventory item , set the item cost = $10

> update the stock on hand to Qty=10 or  do  Inventory Adjustments

> check  Product Valuation in report, it should say  $100

Note that the items must be a stockable type

If you are using Perpetual (automated) inventory valuation and you already linked your product categories to accounts and already uploaded (created) your products with cost Price then what you have to do is just doing the initial inventory adjustment for your products and Odoo will take care of the calculation of the value and register it in finance accounts and you can check your inventory value for your products from the Inventory valuation report

By the way, there are three cost methods which uses to compute the cost of your stored items, For more details about the inventory valuation and costing methods please refer to the below documentation topics:
