Does anyone know a way to define an additional addons directory so that modules are only available in 1 database?

If I can store a modules in the filestore of a database, it can be included in the backup. If this is accomplished it will be possible to use / test different versions of a module on the same server.

For all of those features you need to run multiples odoo instances and use it with different addons_path config options. Also you could config dbfilter for every instance either
