Is it possible to manage orders without creating a sales order and an invoice? In other words, can I enter an order, bypassing the sales and invoicing functions in order to manage stock and use the traceability to keep track of what was shipped where? This would make OpenERP an order-fulfillment tool as well as an inventory management tool to keep track of the movement of products from the manufacturing and warehouse side.
I'm not sure I understand your question 100%, but if you install just the Warehouse module, it will track just incoming shipments and Delivery Orders. The Warehouse module doesn't depend on the Sales module. But it does depend on the invoicing module, admittedly. I believe that's only the case because Suppliers and Customers reside in the Invoicing module (I could be wrong).
Anyway, with just the Warehouse module installed, you can start just using the Deliver Products and Incoming Products options.
