got offered this 2nd hand machine and wonder whether it would be fine to operate an ubuntu samabaserver plus an OpenERP 7.0 in a KVM virtual machine on it. I guess RAM and maybe HD will have to be renewed

in the end: they should use a full-blown ERP system with warehouse, manufacturing, CRM, HR, accounting, purchase, ...

Yes,  It works great. 4GB is enough as per your requirement.

you sure that 4GB would be enough for a sambaserver & a Virtual machine?
