Just a corrention in my previous post, the problem is that my previously installed OpenERP 7 addon modules were copied to the /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/openerp/addons by Odoo 8 installer that caused the problem. I removed the entire addons folder and performed a reinstallation of Odoo 8. Now everything is OK with my installation.

I hope this post will help others who might experience the same issue in the future.

I am experiencing the same problem with Odoo version 8.0-20150311 installed to replace Openerp 7 in my Ubuntu 14.04 machine. I'm still digging solutions for this. I never had this problem with my other installations, although this is my first in a machine with version 7 previously installed.

Maybe in this section on the openerp: addons path: ['/home/openerp/.local/share/OpenERP/addons/8.0'] is an unwanted import that happenned to me once, try to run it without that import this might be one possibility
