If you plan to usse real numbers, then simple constrant (99<xxx<1000) will do,
but if you plan on using codes lik 050 (zero-five-zero ) then you need field char, (leading zeroes will not displan on integer fields)
checks can be made using constraints, sql_constraints, onchange_method, etc...
pick what suit you the best:)
