We use the CRM module to define sales teams for different market segments. Now for each sales team, the Kanban view shows number of leads, invoices, opportunities and the amount invoiced this month. This last value can only be determined if the invoices are linked to a sales team. However, we couldn't find any way to link the an invoice to a specific sales team.
As of v7 when you install both CRM and Sales Management a new "Sales Team" field appears in the "Other Info" tab on invoices (I think this field is visible by default for everyone). This is the link that the system uses to find all invoices related to a given Sales Team.
By the way you should not need to set the Sales Team manually on invoices, as users can choose their "Default Sales Team" in their preferences (this is a new field that also appears if you install CRM and Sales Management). The Default Sales Team of each user will be automatically set on new invoices they have created.
Update: In current trunk (future v8) the visibility of the Sales Teams depends on an extra setting that needs to be enabled: Settings > Configuration > Sales, check "Organize Sales activities into multiple Sales Team".
