Code Activity

As OpenERP's core code is accessible via Github, you can refer to the statistics on the project pages:

https://github.com/odoo/odoo

From this, you can see for example, that there has been about 2100 commits for these three projects in the last month. [2013-05-02]

You can also refer to the OpenERP community dashboard here to monitor the progression of merge proposals.

Ohloh

Ohloh also provides detailed activity statistics for broad periods of time, letting you see the general direction that the project is going:

Official project: https://www.ohloh.net/p/odoo

Community addons: https://www.ohloh.net/p/odoo-community-addons

Google Trends

You can see detailed historical search term popularity for OpenERP, with our competitors as a reference, here

Partners

OpenERP also has a vast number of partners around the world who contribute to the knowledge base, module collection and expansion of the software.

You can find a breakdown of partner availability by country here:

https://www.odoo.com/partners

The list is growing - new partners have recently been recruited in Napal, Sri Lanka and Laos. Odoo has around 500 partners in 100 countries.

Forums

You can also get some interesting figures by the number of questions on Stack Overflow with the OpenERP tag. (For future readers, you will get a better idea by consulting the number of questions asked on this forum which tend to be 30 per day, this forced Odoo to develop their own Q&A web)

OCA

Graviting around Odoo, the numerous contributors tend to regroup them under an association named Odoo Community Association.

Nice answer, I would just add some more detailed informations references like those links:

OpenERP Stats on Ohloh

OpenERP Community Stats on Ohloh

Thanks, I have updated the answer with your links :)

At another level, Google Trends also gives an idea of the activity around OpenERP: http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=openerp,openbravo,compiere,adempiere

Thanks again; answer updated

Today 1-3-2013 955 questions on this forum. 727 of them has answers. This weekend the 1000st question will be asked. I congratulate OpenERP SA and the community with this good result!

If you are a developer then be prepared for a bit of a hard time. The developer documentation is almost non-existant and getting answers to developer questions from the community almost never happens. Thats not to say you shouldn't use it as OpenERP itself is regularly updated and progressed, but if you want to customise it yourself then it will be a steep and frustrating learning curve!

@Alex Malone, about answer from the community, I disagree, you can find a lot of answer here given by the community on development topics.

Admittedly I've had one of my questions answered and one half-answered within the last 48 hours which is really good. If I compare this to version 6 and the forums there, I think I only had 1 question answered out of around 25 asked over the course of a year and a half. Those forums (which were the main community interface) were dead and seriously frustrating. Whilst I really hate this new help interface (can't find anything....) the responses have been better than before.
