Hi, I have a very simple module that takes user information simply based but while installing it i got this error ValueError: No such external ID currently defined in the system: addons/my_module I have already checked all my files and their names in __init__, __openerp__, view file and main .py everything is fine. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I think there is the view`s problem. Could you show me more information?

The logfiles should point to the external ID with the problem. Please provide more information from the logfile

It would help, if you can post your code, especially the various XML-files (with the definitions and content of the objects). With these, it would be much easier for us to help you find the error.
