How is this even calculated by OpenERP? Products have no attributes to enter dimension.....

Products can have volume and gross/net weight added to them. Those attributes are in the product > inventory tab.
The user you are logged in as must have the correct permissions to view those fields.
Make sure the user you are logged in as have the "manage product packaging" field checked in their access rights tab.
