OpenERP has (mostly) moved away from this design pattern.

This design is only really useful if there are 10 lines or less.

With more lines, users spend extra time finding the one(s) they want and usually want to search, sort, filter and page through the records in the list.

If you take a look at the new design pattern, OpenERP has moved to a button that opens a list view that can be searched, sorted, filtered and paged through.

However, there is nothing preventing you from using this design.

In your XML, you would specify the one2many field you want to see in the tab and then define how the treeview should look.

Take a look at res.partner.followup.form.inherit and how that view defines the treeview as part of a tab.
