Check if email document (invoice) sent successfully

When emailing a document such as a customer invoice in version 6.1 it was possible to check the sent status by looking at the state column under messages. It appears the state column has been dropped in the V7.0 mail.message. In version 7.0 is it possible to check if an email has been successfully sent?
