Cannot change sales person on lead

I can edit a lead, put myself as salesperson and save. This works fine.

But if I put somebody else as salesperson and save, I get "Access Denied" "(Document type: Lead/Opportunity, Operation: write)

Both me and the other person are in the Sales Manager group.

Is this intended behavior, or would there be an error in the security config?
