I may be missing it but ...

User A sends a chat message to user B. User B is not logged on.

The message is retained and it will display onc user B logs on and clicks on user A icon. But, there is no way that I have found about for the system to show User B about a pending message, ie, one that was sent to userB  chat-box whhile he was not logged on. Is that so?

And great suggestion.
But I REALLY wonder if the user is warned if they are NOT logged in. 
Possibly there may be a configuration issue, if not.
