What is the function of journal type?

The help says it can be Sales or general or purchases or bank or cash etc

What if you define a bank journal as general?

By giving Journal type on Journal means you are specify that the current journal comes under which accounting document.

For example if you say bank journal as general type than it will not appear on your bank statement or voucher related to bank and cash.

Journal type is field on journal which allow user to differentiate the different journals on documents.
