I produce fresh fruit drinks from a paste of fruit. I have a BOM and a routing for each of these product. The fruit paste is my semi-finished product for the Fresh Fruit drink.  I set the route of the Fruit paste as Make To Stock MTS. The fresh fruit drink iroute s a Make To Order.

I have enough fruit paste in stock. When a client order is confirmed, it generate both a MO for the fresh fruit drink, but also a MO for the paste.

I do not want the MO for the paste so long as I have it in stock. How to solve that issue please?

Kind regards

Why use Make To Order process at all. It easily make problems in your Logistic flow. These problems are so common that I highly recommend to avoid MTO if possible.

Set the finish product also to MTS, and a reordering rule where all qty is only 0.

The result is that when you get an order, a delivery is created and manufacturing order for the same qty is created.

Disadvantage: If you have several sales orders / deliveries for the same product open and not covered by existing manufacturing orders, then the system will create a manufacturing order for the sum of requirements. Maybe you would like to avoid that.

I like that. Seems quite easy to handle this way. Thanks a lot

Hi Vermont:

Try the following settings for the routes:

  • Paste: Select only Manufacture

  • Drink: Select both Manufacture and Make to Order

These settings will automatically trigger an MO for Drink but not for Paste.

When you book an order for the Drink, it will trigger off a Delivery Order and a MO for the Drink. If there is sufficient stock of the Paste, you will be able to complete the MO for the Drink.

You will need to set up a Reordering Rule on Paste to automate the MO for the Paste if sufficient stock of the Paste is not available. This will automatically trigger an MO for Paste as soon as the criteria for reordering are met.

Hope that helps.

Hi Paresh

Yes, I do manufacture both. The paste is manufactured in large quantities and stocked in negative cold room. The fresh drink is produced and supplied immediately as it has a very short life span (3 days)
