Manufacturing Order BOM

We use engineering tools specific to products, and want to include them in the BOM.
The reason the tools are required in the BOM is that they need to be ordered the first time a product is manufactured. The tools are reusable (they can be used again the next time a customer orders the product) and don't get consumed in the manufacturing process. For example, a mold for a size 9 shoe is purchased and used in the manufacturing process the first time a customer orders a shoe in size 9, and the mold is used again a few months later when the customer reorders the same shoe.
While we've been able to add a tool as a component in the BOM, I've not been able to figure out how not to let it get consumed during manufacturing. Is there something in the product/component settings that we're missing?

We'd really appreciate it if someone could help with this. Or, is there a better way of going about this in Odoo altogether?

We have a similar issue, has anyone found a solution for this. We need to have tools visible on a BOM. Our tools are used to press parts and then are put back in stock after they are used.

Hi,

If the requirement is restricted to just reporting and make the machine operators know as to which tool/mould they need to use while manufacturing, then, the mould/tool can be created as a consumable product and added in the BOM (with product type as "consumable", there won't be any inventory maintained and Odoo treats the product as available for use always). This solves only the requirements of reporting & user awareness to a certain extent.

But, ideally, a mould should be defined as an equipment and an asset. Also, it needs to have proper tracking (that is when a particular mould/tool is being used in a certain manufacturing order, the same should not be available for usage in another MO simultaneously or other details as to on which machine the mould/tool is mounted, etc). For this certain customization may have to be done as per the needs of the company.
