I have a problem with an installation of a new odoo 17 community package.

I started with a clean and fresh ubuntu 24.04 instalation on a raspberry pi 4. All updated and upgraded.


Installed the version odoo17.0 Lates_all.deb. Reboot and log in at ip:8069


When creating a database i get the following error message;


Database creation error; connection to server on socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432" failed: FATAL; the database system is in recovery mode


I have tried now for a coupleof days and searching the internet but with no succes


Can some body assist?

Hi,

This error is not from Odoo — it means PostgreSQL is not running correctly.
Your Raspberry Pi (ARM64) + Ubuntu 24.04 often installs PostgreSQL 16, but after installing Odoo the service may enter recovery mode if:

    the PG data directory is corrupted,

    the service cannot access /var/lib/postgresql,

    there is not enough RAM or disk,

    or the PG cluster didn’t initialize properly.

Steps to fix
1. Check if PostgreSQL is running

sudo systemctl status postgresql

If it's stopped:

sudo systemctl restart postgresql

2. Check logs for the real error

sudo journalctl -u postgresql -n 50

You will likely see “database system is in recovery mode” or a missing file.
3. Re-initialize the PostgreSQL cluster (most common fix on Pi)

This removes all databases — safe on a new installation.

sudo systemctl stop postgresql
sudo pg_dropcluster 16 main --stop
sudo pg_createcluster 16 main --start

Then restart:

sudo systemctl restart postgresql

4. Ensure the Odoo user exists

sudo -u postgres createuser -s odoo

5. Try creating the Odoo database again

Open http://IP:8069 and create a new DB
