Howto import Sales Orders without referenced products?

Question

I'm trying to import sales orders from an OpenERP7 system into a new Odoo9 without valid references to products.
To achieve that I imported all customers successfully, however, for many reasons I do not want to import the old products.
Thus, here is the burning question:
How can I import the order lines without a valid reference to products?
Is there a way to import order lines that are just "text" entries?

This is definitely an alternative, however, I wonder if this is the way the system was designed to operate?
If it is, so be it. I just want to avoid cluttering the DB with 'unwanted' products that we will never be able to delete later as they will have transactions associated to them.
Thoughts?

What about creating a "shadow product" which could replace your old products?
