The 'About Odoo' box gives only the generic 'Version 8.0', which is obviously not what I am looking for.

if you run odoo.py in your command line the first line it returns will be the version
For instance mine was
2015-01-22 19:39:37,834 23525 INFO ? openerp: OpenERP version 8.0-20150113
Hmmm... If I run do.py from within Eclipse, I get 2015-01-23 08:28:53,999 2867 INFO ? openerp: OpenERP version 8.0 Could you please elaborate how you 'run do.py in your command line', just to avoid any misunderstanding on that level?
