In previous versions of odoo to register a new type of accounting account, a contextual menu was simply created in the odoo accounting configuration and there you could add or edit the types of accounting accounts. But now in odoov16 it can't be done anymore. Does anyone know how they can be added?

The blog doesnt mention on how to create account types. I agree with Ray, there is a specific function for each account type. I wish odoo allows to build new account types including enabling and disabling the associated features in near future.

We don't recommend this. Creating new account types will require additional changes in how other parts of Odoo work.

Account types have logical meanings that affect the internal operations of Accounting.

Use Account Groups or Report Configuration to split and/or group accounts as needed.

Of you need a new account type for a different category of current assets, instead create multiple account groups to separate a list of accounts all using the current asset type or customize financial reports by defining lines that group the list of current asset account types.

@Ray carnes

Is there any official document or documentation mentioning the use, objective and function of different types of accounts in a chart of account, e.g. only payable and receivable types can be chosen as Receivable and Payable account on a contact form. Objectives are like being a control account for suppliers or customers, an account has to be of type Payables or Receivables.

Similarly, only bank type can be chosen in a Journal type Bank. Objective would be to open a bank journal, link this account, use it for receiving and making payments, bank reconciliations.
