We are currently migrating to Odoo, and one of the areas we are struggling with is the warehouse/inventory. The process we use now for picking/packing/shipping orders is very efficient (it is home built), but we are really trying to see if we can use the built in functionality of Odoo and retire our current system.
One of the main issues is that the products we ship out vary greatly in size and weight, and in how they are ordered, so we don't know box sizes and weights until after picking and packing.
Right now, our team takes a packing lists, pulls the products, puts them into a box, puts the box on the scale, scans the order ID into UPS or FedEx, and the shipping label prints out based on what is on the scale. It then uploads the tracking number to our ERP associated with the order that was scanned.
The process in Odoo seems to be that we have to pick it, then transfer to packing, then transfer to shipping, then define packages, the eventually generate a shipping label.
I can't image that there aren't places out there doing it in a more efficient way or have Odoo working in a way that cuts way down on the number of steps. Would anyone that runs a high volume warehouse on Odoo be willing to talk to us about how you are doing it, what you have found works well, does not, or point us to apps that integrate with Odoo to handle the warehouse management?
Thanks!
