The customer table is named res_partner with field customer=True, but this isn't a best practice. The best one is to do it using import option whitch is available on each tree view. Attention you must enable this option in Settings->Configuration->General Settings and enable the option  Import / Export.

You can then save your Xls fie as csv, test import to be sure everything is ok and then import it.
