I have written some code in my website custom module, i have wrote the java script code under script tag in XML file. Unfortunately it is working perfectly only under debug with assets, early the module works perfectly on the Odoo 12.

I faced the same problem, and I tried with
expr="script[last()]" position="after"
instead of
expr="." position="inside"
in order to add my JS file, and it works for me!

Paste the following script before this your script. I had the same issue and i solved by using this method(Don't know the exact reason of the problem).

Check the security of that particular file.
you make changes in XML file so make sure you update the module.
