Sun Gold Power, a renewable-energy supplier serving both distributors and off-grid consumers across the United States, has undergone a complete operational transformation thanks to Odoo. What began as a manual, fragmented workflow became a streamlined, data-driven engine, empowering teams across continents, boosting revenue, and creating the scalability the business needed.

Sun Gold Power is more than a solar-products supplier. As Luis Mungaray, Human Resources Manager, explains, the company sits at the crossroads of logistics, engineering, customer service, and product innovation. Unlike companies who focus solely on traditional rooftop panel installations, Sun Gold Power specializes heavily in off-grid solar systems.

These systems are essential for customers who live or work in places not connected to a traditional power grid: ranches, farms, RVs, trailer parks, and remote locations where reliable access to electricity can dramatically change daily life. Sun Gold Power supplies these customers with panels, batteries, inverters, and setups, either for DIY installation or with support from installers and electricians.

Founded originally in Hong Kong, the company began as a solar-panel seller before expanding into batteries and inverters. In 2019, Sun Gold Power opened its logistics operations in Southern California. The business grew steadily, but over the past year, with the implementation of Odoo, it has experienced a sharp acceleration in processes, customer service consistency, and revenue.

"Odoo completely changed our company, and it definitely changed my life. As an HR Manager, one of my top priorities was bringing structure and consistency to every department. Implementing Odoo became a strategic initiative because it gave us the tools to streamline our processes, improve collaboration, and build a strong operational foundation. It truly transformed our organization for the better by helping us support our customers more effectively and scale in a sustainable way."

Before Odoo: Manual Processes and Lost Information

When Luis joined the company in 2024, only six or seven employees were managing a rapidly expanding customer base and growing revenue. But there was one major obstacle: almost nothing was really organized.

Sun Gold Power relied heavily on manual processes. Notes were kept on paper. Products were listed manually. Communication logs didn’t exist. Customer service histories were impossible to track. Logistics lacked structure. Sales had no central tool for quotations or communication.

The team had previously used foreign software, but it quickly became clear it couldn’t support real growth or the company’s increasingly complex operations. As they searched for a new ERP, they needed a system that could reliably connect their U.S. and Shenzen offices and support the workflows of engineering, sales, logistics, customer service, and HR.

Sun Gold Power’s biggest concern was whether a system could truly handle two branches operating in different time zones with multiple teams that still required full visibility into one another’s work. Previous tools and the limited foreign software simply couldn’t meet that standard.

"Before Odoo, we were using software that simply couldn’t support the way our U.S. and Shenzhen teams needed to work together. We needed a system that could bridge both countries, handle time-zone and workflow differences, and give everyone full visibility. Odoo became that bridge. It consolidated our processes and created a unified workflow that transformed how we operate across both regions."

How Odoo Became the Company’s Operational Breakthrough

Luis became the point of contact for Odoo about a year before the interview. His goal was clear: build a scalable workflow that new hires could use immediately, regardless of whether they were in sales, engineering, logistics, or customer service. He even learned to code to ensure Sun Gold Power could use Odoo to its fullest potential. Implementation began around February or March 2025, with Luis driving configuration, customization, documentation, and training.

Impact 1: A Fully Streamlined Sales Workflow. Sun Gold Power’s sales team handles mostly inbound calls, helping customers choose parts or build complete off-grid systems. Odoo Sales became the backbone of this process by enabling structured quotations, configurable options, and a single place to track all customer interactions. especially helpful for repeat customers.
  • The team now sends multiple quotation options, adapted to the customer’s needs and budget. Because the process is fast and easy, salespeople are more incentivized to offer alternatives. This improvement alone helped Sun Gold Power increase completed sales by at least 20%.
Impact 2: A Robust Product Database Using BOMs. Before Odoo, writing down SKUs manually created errors, confusion, and lost time. With Odoo’s product database and Bill of Materials (BOMs), Luis created a system that handles the company’s unique selling structure, such as solar panels sold in packs of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 24.
  • The BOM-driven structure also syncs with Shopify through a third-party connector, ensuring accurate online inventory. Now, instead of guessing how many units remain, employees can instantly see stock levels and avoid mis-shipments.
Impact 3: Full Visibility Through Log Notes. One of the biggest issues before Odoo was lost information. Without communication logs, neither the U.S. nor Shenzen teams knew what had previously been said to a customer. With Odoo’s log notes, all communication is centralised. This enabled Sun Gold Power to cut customer-service response times from 2–3 days to a maximum of 24 hours, despite the time difference with China.
Impact 4: Efficient Warehousing. Luis highlighted the Barcode app as a surprisingly powerful tool. Warehouse employees now scan products, view quantities instantly, and complete pickings and delivery orders, all through their mobile devices.
  • The company designed a “pick then deliver” workflow, with the warehouse handling picking and logistics handling labels only once the order transitions to “delivery order.” This reduced errors and made training significantly easier for new employees.
Impact 5: Company-Wide Training and Procedures. From an HR perspective, Luis needed a place to store SOPs, onboarding materials, and training processes. None existed before Odoo. The eLearning app enabled Sun Gold Power to centralize training, distribute procedures, and ensure new hires across all departments follow consistent workflows.
  • Meanwhile, the Documents app stores all corporate materials in one searchable place, improving internal compliance and reducing time spent locating files.

"We wanted to keep improving so we could better serve our customers, especially those living off-grid who rely on dependable solar systems. Odoo helped us elevate employee training, strengthen compliance, streamline logistics, and deliver a faster, more consistent customer experience. That’s the transformation we were aiming for."

What’s Next for Sun Gold Power?

In 2026, the company plans to move from inbound-only sales to outdoor sales. This expansion aims to reach more customers and strengthen Sun Gold Power’s presence in key regions.

Additionally, the company will continue refining its internal workflows, adding new Odoo modules as needed, and further integrating its U.S. and Shenzen teams. Given that the full suite is available, Luis emphasized that implementation will follow operational needs and capacity, not a rushed timeline.

Sun Gold Power’s story demonstrates how even a small team, 22 people in the U.S. and 15–20 in China, can scale rapidly when workflows, communication, inventory, and sales are unified in a single platform. If your business operates in renewable energy, logistics, manufacturing, or any industry relying on complex workflows across teams or regions, Sun Gold Power’s experience shows what’s possible with Odoo: faster responses, accurate inventory, easier training, and a significant boost in sales efficiency.
