How to know where is the link of installed module and addons path is stored in database?

Problem is: 

When I give addons path in configuration file, and click on Update Apps List, and after that I installed that module. Now I am changing the addons path in configuration file, but if I change anything in module code, it is not at all reflecting the changes, even though it is the same module (which is already installed)

When I again change addons path: back to previously given path, it works perfectly fine (i.e. coming with all new updates in module)

Changing addons path only works until and unless I uninstall the already installed module and get and new module from Update Apps List, and I install that module again, this is working fine with new addons path, changes and everything.

Can anyone tell me how installed modules and its addons path links with each other? And how to change that?
