How to auto-generate unique Asset Number per Asset Model when assets are created?

Question

We need to implement an *Asset Number* field in Odoo 18 that:

Acts as a *unique ID* for each asset (not editable, not reused).

Is assigned automatically when an asset is created (either manually or automatically from vendor bills).

Uses a *different running sequence per Asset Model (Category)*.

Should appear on the Asset form, list view, and be searchable.

Hi,  Buddhika !
At ERPixel [1] we can do this quickly.
By default, Odoo creates a new Asset with the name taken from the Purchase Order → Bill line. That means the asset card already gets a unique name that corresponds to the purchase.
Alternatively, in about 1 hour we can add a separate *Reference Number* field, which will be automatically assigned to each new asset.
