Live streaming has become an integral part of today's world. It is an established component of our everyday media landscape. When G&L Systemhaus was founded, things looked very different. In 2005, the distribution of video content via digital channels was still undeveloped. From the start, G&L was working to change that.

Over the next 20 years, they shaped the industry and tried to stay one step ahead of current developments. Today, G&L Systemhaus stands for the reliable delivery of audio and video content – live and on-demand, from contribution to processing and monitoring to distribution to the audience.

G&L develops modern, future-proof setups for digital media processing. The quality of their services and the trust of their customers has been an integral part of their business for decades.

Unacceptable for streaming experts: Media discontinuity and low data quality

Before implementing Odoo, G&L Systemhaus worked with a heterogeneous software landscape that had grown over time. While the individual solutions fulfilled their respective technical purposes, the lack of interaction prevented efficiency and automation. The manual consolidation of data across system boundaries not only jeopardized data quality, but also took a lot of time. Reporting was like looking in the rearview mirror: once data had been laboriously consolidated, it was often already outdated.

Added to this was a high total cost of ownership (TCO) due to redundant licensing costs and high maintenance expenses. For these reasons, G&L Systemhaus set out to find a centralized system.

Why Odoo?

  • Huge selection of apps: With over 70 apps, Odoo already covers a wide range of business processes “out of the box.” Individual customizations can also be implemented quickly and cost-effectively.
  • All-in-one approach: All apps access a shared database. This prevents gaps in the information flow and ensures that everything is documented in a traceable manner.

  • Fair pricing model: Odoo's pricing model is particularly attractive, as the cost structure is based solely on the number of users. By replacing its previous isolated solutions, G&L was able to significantly reduce its total cost of ownership (TCO) and now benefits from clear, scalable budget planning.

Latency-free implementation: Odoo goes live in less than 9 months

Odoo was implemented in close cooperation with Odoo partner RATOCON GmbH. A dedicated contact person ensured seamless communication throughout the entire process. The goal was to go live with Odoo as quickly as possible and then continuously improve it.

This approach was made possible by Odoo's modular structure, which enables companies to start with an MVP (Minimal Viable Product) and then continuously improve the platform based on that. Weekly status updates allowed everyone involved to stay informed and quickly identify and resolve any challenges.

After an initial kick-off workshop and a detailed analysis, work began on implementing the Contacts, Sales, and Accounting modules. These formed the backbone of the new infrastructure

Most of the requirements of G&L could be met using the standard Odoo functionalities. At the same time, the platform proved to be flexible enough to allow for straightforward adjustments to accommodate industry-specific requirements. The partners at RATOCON GmbH developed an interface that almost completely automates the import of invoice data into Odoo Accounting. This end-to-end digitization strengthens process discipline, which ensures that processes are carried out as planned.

An important factor in software implementations is user acceptance. This was greatly facilitated by Odoo's modern and user-friendly interface. With a combination of live training sessions and training videos, the partner RATOCON was able to ensure that the platform was quickly integrated into everyday processes.

Thanks to this combined effort the results came quickly. Less than nine months passed between the first workshop and the go-live date.

Business data in high resolution: Improved data quality and 40 % time savings

Odoo enabled G&L to optimize and standardize their internal structures. Isolated applications, information silos, and media discontinuity are now a thing of the past thanks to Odoo's “single source of truth.”

At the same time, G&L was able to achieve measurable results very quickly. “By automating and consolidating several applications in Odoo, we have achieved time savings of approximately 40% in invoicing,” reports the G&L team. The company also observed similar productivity gains in reporting, as Odoo enables straightforward real-time analysis at any time.

Consolidating the software landscape into a centralised solution not only saves the accounting department headaches, but also eliminates unnecessary costs due to redundancies.

"With Odoo, we were able to do away with an expensive, time-consuming construct consisting of several tools and now work in a much more cost-effective, efficient and organised manner.”
André Priess, Senior Finance Administration Manager

Following the successful go-live of the core modules, G&L is already planning the next steps. Thanks to Odoo's scalability, additional business areas can be seamlessly integrated in the future to further expand the company's lead in the streaming industry.
