Installation and Configuration
1. Copy the files to your addons folder.
This step will depend on how your installation is configured, but essentially, once the new module is downloaded, you will need to move it into an addons folder on your server. If you are unsure which folder is reserved for addons, you can find that information on your Odoo configuration file.
The files can be placed on your server in multiple ways. We recommend using either SCP/SSH or FTP.
2. Restart your Odoo instance.
Whenever new applications are installed, Odoo will need to be restarted. We highly recommend that you do not do this during your standard hours of operations or in a production environment. There is always a possibility of module conflict, so take precautions to reduce the amount of time your system is unavailable to your users.
You can use the same method that you normally use when restarting Odoo. Typical commands we have encountered are:
# Using a service script on Linux
sudo service odoo-server restart
# Using Docker and Docker-Compose
3. Install The Module.
Once you have restarted your instance, navigate to the Apps screen within your Odoo instance and install the Reminders his will open up all of the features for you to access.
That's it! Start using the new features!
Contact Blue Stingray
Reach out for Odoo implementation services.
Blue Stingray helps you improve your processes with better software solutions. We offer full implementation lifecycle services for both Community and Enterprise editions. This include services such as system installation/configuration (on-site or cloud hosted), system maintenance, business analysis/requirements gathering, custom module development, support/training, data migration, and system cutover.
The module is installed through Odoo's App interface. It will automatically install Odoo dependencies not already installed.
To use Reminders, your instance of Odoo must be able to send email. Create a system property with a key of 'email.reminder.from' with a value of who you want your reminder emails to appear from. You must have permissions on the email server to send as this user.
After installation, all users have access to the Reminders application. If this is not what you want, you should restrict access in the security settings. The objects involved are blue.reminder, blue.reminder.day, and blue.reminder.trigger.
Once the Reminders application is installed, you will see a reminders button in the main application window. Clicking this will bring up the Reminders task list. Currently, the only type of reminder implemented is using email.
You can set the subject and the header. Adding users is done on the users tab. You user creating the reminder is added by default.
- There are three type of Reminders:
- Reminder is sent only once. This is the default.
- Repeat forever. Change the Repeats to Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. Then choose a start date with no end date.
- Repeat until an end date. Same as repeat forever, but provide an End Date.
The Triggers tab lists the reminders that have been sent.
